This Month's Zodiac Sign
Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius
DATES: November 22 - December 21
Planet: Jupiter
Element: Fire
The zodiac sign Sagittarius holds the sign of the Archer and the centaur, a mythical half-man, half-horse. The Sagittarius is one of the sun signs, but its ruling planet is Jupiter.
Its Starstone, which is different from a birth stone, is Topaz. A Starstone is meant to bring good luck and compatible people to the owner's life. Topaz will help to bring out the leadership qualities of a Sagittarius. It also helps them to take control of any situation they find in life, and feel more in control of themselves.
A Sagittarius is said to be extremely confident, lucky, a great worker, enthusiastic, takes risks, doesn't give up easily, and has a great sense of timing. People around them will sometimes feel that they are overly ambitious, and that they hope for too much good at once. This will never stop them- they would much rather aim high and take on the adventures of life than end up regretting never setting goals that will make their dreams come true. They know you can trust their feelings, so they use them when they need it.
A Sagittarius is very confident and will concentrate all of their attention on whatever they are doing at the moment, and seem to see no other way but theirs until their efforts are made. Sagittarians tend to be gamblers in life, but will always land on their feet. Your monthly Zodiac sign is brought to you by Larissa
Celebrate With Just Another Sunset
November Birth Stone: Yellow Topaz or Citrine. The word "topaz" comes from a Sanskrit word that means "fire."
Flower: Chrysanthemum
Celtic Tree: The celts gave each full moon a tree name. The tree name for November is Reed and is associated with "health, happiness, truth, love, family, hearth and home." (Source: Asala, Joanne. Celtic Folklore Cooking. St. Paul: Llewellyn Publications, 1998. 21-23.)
November Full Moon: November 13. "Full Beaver Moon - This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon." From the Farmer's Almanac.
November 27 is Thanksgiving Day.
November 30 is the beginning of Advent. Advent begins 4 Sunday before Christmas. A wreath with four candles is set on a table. The first is lit on the first Sunday, and second on the second Sunday as so on. Many wreathes also contain a fifth Candle in the middle to be lit the morning of Christ's birth.
December's full moon is on December 12.
December 21 is the Winter Solstace or Yule, the shortest day of the year. Yule is a Norse holiday that was later adopted by the Celts. It is celebrated with evergreens, wreathes, holly, mistletoe, and the burning of a Yule Log to bring light to the darkest day of the year. In France, a cake is decorated to look like a log, complete with mushrooms and wood stumps. The Yule Log is now typically used as a part of Christmas celebrations.
